Mind Wisdom & Heart Wisdom

“Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connait pas”

“Our heart wisdom has a way of reasoning that our reasoning mind cannot comprehend.”

This French quote reminds me that we are so in our heads that we forget to connect with our heart and we tend to rely on our intellect to make daily decisions which leads to being stressed out. Instead it is suggested we drop down into our heart and see what thoughts, words and actions come about when we give it a chance. The HeartMath Institute demonstrated scientifically that our heart wisdom is way more powerful than the intelligence of our mind. When tested, the heart activity spreads way way farther than the mind activity.

How does one drop into heart wisdom?

Here are 2 personal stories that happened to me and illustrate how it can work.

1) I have a family member that is very different from me. I am touchy feely and she is not. She needs lots of space from people, lots of distancing even though this happened before the pandemic. Still, I always tried my best to connect with her as best I can to nurture harmony in our relationship, so here is what happened.

I was driving to her house and consciously released down into my heart location and started to talk to my heart asking it to guide me when I get to her house so I say and do the right thing per my heart wisdom guidance. When I got to her house, I entered the house and instead of heading over to her and give her a hug as I usually do, I sensed it was better not to, probably because she really did not want a hug. So, I did not give her a hug and she seemed perfectly content not to get it. The strange fact was that the kind thing to do was to not give her a hug.

My mind would never have guessed that in a million years!

So, to function efficiently in our society, we need both our heart and our mind wisdom. Yet, most of us are so disembodied that even when we know the right thing to do intellectually, we do not often do it. And sometimes, we make assumptions about ourselves or others instead of reading cues for more accuracy of perception. And at other times, when disembodied, we can’t receive acts of love like in my story when expression of compassion and love is essential to a thriving life.

2) I am currently in Toronto, Canada and it has been a long time coming.

I have been wanting to come but my intellect felt there was no time to go away. I was in the middle of a course launch and it was going to be cold. Perhaps, it also was not the right time to spend extra money on traveling. Yet, my heart felt it was totally time to go visit 2 people who live there and are very precious to me. So, maybe it was not the right time but is there ever a good time I was wondering? So, I was evenly divided and had to choose one or the other. I decided to follow my heart nudging to go.

The forecast had been to rain mostly every day and the weather so far has only had one rainy day. Besides, now that I am away from home and my regular environment, I am getting amazing insights that are enhancing both my work and my personal life and will continue to do so. That is why I am so glad I went with my heart wisdom against the logic of my intellect. In fact, I am having networking opportunities here that I could only hope for if I was still home working at my computer from my home office.

So, as much as we need our intellect, it is essential to learn to access our heart wisdom and let it be in charge as often as possible to compensate for our societal tendency to let our intellect be in charge more often than not.

Going from being heady to being embodied is part of the journey, being embodied meaning allowing our mind and body to work together, being aware of both in the same timezone.

Going from being embodied to being embodied in an integrated way adds to the efficiency of our embodiment. It means to not only be aware of muscle activity but also of how all body part work harmoniously together so none of them steel the show!

With integrated embodiment it becomes easy to drop into our heart and access its wisdom on demand which allows mind and heart to work together at the same time. A continuous journey I have been on for a while now. Perfection is not the goal, making progress in the right direction is the best we can do!
