ABOUT CÉCILE RAYNOR

Cécile Raynor is an AmSAT certified teacher. Founder of Alexander Technique Associates, she has been practicing in Brookline for almost 20 years with students ranging in age from 7 to 77.

Cécile was born and raised in Paris, France. A Sorbonne graduate, she came to the US to teach French. It was then that she was first introduced to the Alexander Technique. She received a Master's Degree in French Literature and kept teaching while completing her PhD coursework.

She moved to Brookline and opened a language school. While she found this work rewarding, she recognized her own need to be involved in a field in which both the mind and the body were engaged. She started practicing meditation and kept taking Alexander Technique lessons. The Technique enhanced the quality of her life to such a degree that she decided to train and become a teacher.

Cécile went back to France to receive her training which included dance and voice work. She has experience working with children, parents and pregnant women, but the great majority of her practice consists of people with repetitive stress injuries such as neck, shoulder and back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip, knee or ankle pain, tension headaches, and breathing and voice problems. A variety of people come to her, from computer users (e.g., graphic designers, editors, programmers) to performing artists (musicians, dancers, actors) or health care professionals (e.g., nurses, massage therapists, dentists).

While in France for her 3-year professional training, Cécile also worked for Thich Nhat Hanh, Nobel Prize winner for Peace, by assisting with the translation of his book, The Sun, My Heart, into French.

After years of meditation practice and Alexander teaching, Cécile continues to help people become mindful of the quality of their movements so they can experience effortless posture and fluid motion in their daily activities. She offers individual lessons, group sessions, introductory presentations and intensive workshops. She is certified by the American Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AMSAT), an educational non-profit organization.

Cécile complements her practice by drawing on her experience with exercise, meditation, nutrition, and homeopathy. She has a CD to help students with their at-home practice of "Active Resting", an Alexander Technique procedure with a meditative overtone to regenerate your back and improve your postural alignment.

More recently, Cécile has trained as a Thai Yoga therapist. She has been training with Ariela Grodner, herself trained by Kam Thye Chow from the Lotus Palm School in Montreal (www.lotuspalm.com). She is currently teaching classes through the Brookline Adult Ed including a class on Thai Yoga for Partners.
